“Procter & Gamble Co confirmed on Monday that it is raising prices on Pampers diapers and wipes, Bounty paper towels and Charmin toilet paper in the United States, as it faces soaring costs for energy and materials.
Here’s the break down:
- PAMPERS: Diapers prices up 7%, wipes prices up 3%
- BOUNTY: Prices up 5%
- CHARMIN: Prices up 5%
The latest moves come about a month after P&G announced plans to raise U.S. detergent prices 4.5 percent.
Rival Kimberly-Clark Corp said on Monday that materials, energy and transportation are set to cost more than twice as much as it expected this year. It already announced price increases on Huggies diapers, wipes, training pants and some toilet paper in March.”
One thing I learned in my business classes in college is when prices go up, they tend to stay there for while. Basically, it’s easier for prices to go up then come down. Thoughts?? 🙁

Ugh as if gas werent enough… they are really making it harder to get good deals with coupons! .25 cents wont make a dent 🙁 I am a stay at home Mom and couponing makes that possible but with the prices on everything going up that may have to change???Cost of living goes up but average pay isnt!
This is when people need to start using cloth diapers and homemade detergents. Prices tend to stay up but not if there is not a demand for the products.
Lets hope eco-friendly manufacturers start to compete with these big wigs. I cloth diaper my babe for the most part- so not too worried about diapers. I try to use wash rags instead of paper towels so not worried about that either. (What’s better than getting these things for free?? Not needing them in the first place- and therefore consuming less!!) Guess for toilet paper I’ll have to find a company who isn’t hugely affected by the high cost of oil because they are already progressive enough to rely on greener resources to produce and manufacture our paper goods. I coupon to save money on what I NEED- and I also try to avoid falling into the consumer trap that I need certain items in order to live comfortably. Couponing shouldn’t just be about getting good deals or “free things”- it should be about saving money on things we NEED! We don’t really NEED paper towels- do we?? I’m sure the planet would agree on our consuming less- so maybe it’s a mixed blessing?? I’m sure most people who are paper good gluttons (like the extremers on Extreme Couponing) have a decent stash to supply themselves with for a good while to save on these price hikes! As far as TP- I never find really amazing deals on it anyway and consider it one of the more pricey neccesities we have to budget for. Hope I’m not the only couponer that feels this way…
It’s funny that P&G is announcing this & they already have the most expensive paper towels & toilet paper.
Maybe if P&G spent a little less on advertising and fancy glossy coupon inserts with several pages that don’t even have coupons on them, they could avoid those price increases. I’ll just keep trying to stock up when something is on sale. As far as diapers, if I can’t get name brands cheap with coupons, the Target Up&UP diapers and wipes are really good and very reasonable. Sometimes you can get coupons on Target’s website.
We make our own detergent–and gave up paper products such as tissues and papertowels and napkins a long time ago. The toilet paper price is the only one that will affect us–and that is just something one has to have. Eventually, we will have to give in and buy cheaper paper, probably. Agreed w/cloth diapers. If my daughter was still in diapers, I would be doing cloth diapers as well. People didn’t use to use so many “throw away” things. Generic brands are getting better also–and we have switched to alot of generic stuff. If we keep printing money and spending like we aren’t in debt prices will continue to rise!!!
