Target to Open at Midnight on Black Friday

Oh wow! Target has just announced today that its stores will open at midnight on Thanksgiving Day (11/24) for the first time, much earlier when compared to last years 4 am opening. The stores will stay open for 23 hours and close at 11 pm on Friday, November 25. Target spokeswoman Susan Kahn said the change was a response to customers’ demands. Save now at Target.com + snag 3% cash back on your entire purchase when you shop through ShopAtHome.com!

We’d love to know, what are your thoughts on the midnight opening? Will you be standing in line at midnight on Black Friday?

(thanks @AP)

nope I will be working at the macys I work at, when they also open at midnight. lol I don’t shop on black friday. Last year I opened Toys R Us at midnight and we almost had to call the police. Two fights and one lady near decently injured when someone knocked toys on her head and then knocked her to the ground. I wonder how many crazies we’ll get at macys.

SWEET!! I can get shopping does quicker..!!!

I’m not thrilled about this. Like someone mentioned above, when Toys R Us opened at midnight last year we have two within miles of each other and both had people wrapped around the building and than some, it was insane, they could only let so many in at a time, the traffic was jammed up. The problem I have with this is that more people are apt to stay up til’ midnight as opposed to waking up at 3 or 4am. So therefore, you have TONS of people trying to get into the stores, even more than the normal black friday count.

I will NEVER go shopping on Black Friday EVER again! It’s not worth waiting in super long lines just to get in and also super long lines just to buy your stuff and it’s super crowded! This year i’m doing my x-mas shopping online.

IF they have that REAL DEAL that just can’t be passed up I sure will! It’s all about the savings for me not the time!

Sorry to all you that have to work or have family that will have to work, but I am excited!

Both my husband and I work at Target and think its pretty cool. We work opposition shifts so we don’t have to put our daughter in daycare. Opening at midnight means we actually get to spend time together the day after thanksgiving, which we have never gotten to do before. The only bad part is now one of us will have to actually start work on thanksgiving, which is sad, because we have always been able to spend thanksgiving together with family, and this year we won’t be able to. We will be going to bed early and then sleeping when we get home too.

I am wanting to go but since I am pregnant this year I am afraid of the disrespectful people who will run into me trying to get something that is stocked up at that time. I love that the stores are opening early and I really want to go but I’m more afraid of going then having to fight everyone.

so, they are open on Thanksgiving? I was thinking that they would be open at 12am on the Friday the 25th. I’m sorry but that’s ridiculous, people shouldn’t be shopping on Thanksgiving that’s a family day!

    • Melissa November 6, 2011, 3:48 PM

ok after reading that over and over again, it’s worded wrong. it’s opening on midnight Friday morning not Thanksgiving day.

  • Christina November 10, 2011, 7:43 AM

Im kinda bummed that they will open this early…..im not out of toysrus by then 🙁 we are a single income family of five….so black friday ensures every christmas is a great one for my three children. I ain’t go to bed after a long day of cooking….I go stand in line!

I hate that everyone is opening at midnight! In years past I have been able to hit everywhere at opening because of staggered opening times. Now they’re all at 12, I’ll have to pick and choose and hope for the best!
