So I Bought Myself a Gift…

Ro's keurig box

So I Bought Myself a Gift…

I’m so excited! Yesterday, my brand spankin’ new Keurig arrived. I’ve heard so many good things about it from various folks and when I came across a Kohls.com deal sent to me by a wonderful reader a few weeks ago, I jumped on it and saved nearly 50% off (using my mom’s Kohl’s card combined with the online sale. Thanks Mom!).

If you’ve been a reader for the past few months, I’m sure you know the amount of FREE K-Cups offers has been insane and with so many flavors and varieties out there, all I know is that it’s going to be used quite often around here. I can look forward to my mornings now! 😀

Ro's keurig

Do you own a Keurig? Do you have any tips for me? What’s your FAVORITE K-Cups flavor? I would also love to give my Keurig a nickname. Leave a comment below with your suggestions!

(thanks to the awesome reader who informed me about this deal)

I forgot to add this.. If you want to keep using you fav teas or coffee that may not be made it to K-cups!

  • Lisa Pohlmeier February 1, 2012, 8:06 PM

I have one and LOVE it, my best advice, they make an adapter basket for like 17.00 at walmart and you can use your own coffee in it! Much cheaper then the kcups..I use mine everday and it becomes a little pricey when you blow thru a box of kcups in a few days..but this way I can use it as often as I want!!

  • Megan February 1, 2012, 8:07 PM

Dunkin Donuts K cups is where it’s at…..although I am curios about Folgers Carmel Creme!!!! Thanks Amanda 😉

Call customer service, they have replaced 4 for me. one per year. They will stand behind their product. You may have to go through several steps with troubleshooting and find the serial number (they will help you) but I have ALWAYS had a VERY pleasant experience with their CSR’s. HTH

      • alicia February 2, 2012, 1:55 AM

Call them they will fix it. They have great customer service

  • Karen February 1, 2012, 8:30 PM

I bought one for my husband for X-mas and he said its the best gift I ever got him. REALLY. Wow I couldnt’ beleive he would like it that much but he does. It does get a little spendy on the K-cups but he was spending that at coffee shops anyway.

  • Simone February 1, 2012, 8:35 PM

Yes the Folgers Caramel is AWESOME also Kahlua and Mudslide are GREAT toooo ~ Island coconut and for hot cocoa cafe escapes the ones that we just free 12 pk k cups boxes of sooo good best I’ve EVER had !!

  • Kris February 1, 2012, 8:38 PM

Make sure to register your Keurig online, you will get 2 free boxes of K-cups when you buy two 🙂 I got mine and the prices were better than I could get at the store, even with coupons.

  • Debra Whitehouse February 1, 2012, 8:38 PM

I got that same keurig for christmas too! Love it! Haven’t been a big coffee drinker for years. I like the idea of brewing one cup and not a whole pot. And if you register your Keurig online you can get special deals. I have been trying some different flavors from their website. One you register you become a member and can buy the 5 cup packages for like $3 and something. A great way to try new flavors without having to buy a 18 to 24 count box. I really like the German choc cake and love the dark choc and milk choc cocoa. Haven’t tried the teas yet.

  • breanne February 1, 2012, 8:42 PM

I agree with Tanya you need one of the re-useable filters. It’s a great accessory!

  • Carol February 1, 2012, 8:44 PM

Hey I got the MrCoffee one for christmas, and love IT..just like the Keurig, uses same cups and everything.

  • Sandy in SC February 1, 2012, 8:47 PM

I was given one as a gift this past Christmas. I just this past week tried it out, selected the Green Mountain breakfast I think it was. Not bad but I feel so wasteful. (wink)

Just got the free box of Green Mountain Hot chocolate and tried them, I guess I’m set in my ways since I had to add a touch of Quik and milk to it. 🙂

  • ellen February 1, 2012, 8:47 PM

I love the dark chocolate and the milk chocolate hot chocolate, hubby loves all of the different rarities of english breakfast teas.
we tried two of the small ones and they acted up,then went to the next one up,they acted up as well,we now have a mr coffee keurig and it works.

  • Allison Gurley February 1, 2012, 8:47 PM

Hope you enjoy! I’ve been waiting for a good deal on one!

  • Lauren February 1, 2012, 8:49 PM

I have had mine for a few years and I love it! a few tips I learned to make it last longer are to fill it with filtered water like from a brita not tap water and to clean it every few months before you even get the descale message. you can clean it with a vinegar water mix or get the keurig cleaner. It makes great iced tea in the summer too! Enjoy 🙂

  • B February 1, 2012, 9:00 PM

LOVE my Keurig..I get my K cups @ Bed, Bath and Beyond with a coupon! 🙂

  • lori February 1, 2012, 9:02 PM

I use this brand ‘My K-Cup’ aka reusable single serve coffee filter. We all know that we can score CHEAP SBUX coffee frequently BUT SBUX (Starbucks) grind is very fine and will clog up a Keurig quickly so either buy whole bean and grind it coarser (like for a drip or percolator) like Maxwell House or Folgers or if you can buy whole bean (like me) I MIX a brand like M.H. or Folgers WITH my SBUX fine grind and once a week I take a LARGE paper clip and bend in to a 90deg. angle and insert it into the ‘needle’ that punctures the foil on a K-Cup, twist it a bit and run a few cups of H20 to flush (this is recommended by Keurig when using a My K-Cup). I have replaced 4 Keurig machines in 4 years. My advice: FOLLOW OWNERS MANUAL MAINTENANCE PERFECTLY. Make sure you use filtered water, but if you can’t run an ENTIRE WATER RESOVOIR OF WHITE VINEGAR through the machine (as per instructions in Owners Manual) every 3-6 months (depending on the hardness of your water). I did not do this on my 1st machine and Keurig replaced it anyway (exactly 1 year to the week after initial purchase!). My second and third lasted about a year too even though I was religious with the maintenance/cleaning and Keurig STILL replaced them after so long after the purchase. I LOVE their customer service, ALWAYS courteous, kind, and helpful. You may have to do several tasks with troubleshooting if you have an issue, but be patient, they really are looking out for you and will support their product.

    HTH!

anyone with a problem call 866-901-BREW (866-901-2739) they do have awesome customer service and if all else fail will replace you brewer ..ours stopped pumping the water called and the person asked if we did a few things because it could be blocked we said yes and then he said ok will send you a new one..took i think 3 days to get it (longest 3 days ever lol).

  • deborah February 1, 2012, 9:58 PM

Yay for you! I really want a Keurig and would like to find a great deal on one! Post me a deal! 😉

  • Linda February 1, 2012, 10:41 PM

No, but wish I could find a great buy on one. Would love to have one.

  • bonnieblue06 February 1, 2012, 11:02 PM

Congrats on your new purchase! I have 2 Keurigs. The first one we bought was put on a credenza in our master bedroom! A wooden tray, a rack to hold the kcups, a little basket for individual liquid creamers and sweeteners, and even stir sticks. Makes us feel like we have a nice little retreat!
Flavors? I like the bold flavors. I can brew twice on the 6 oz setting (from the same kcup) so I get a full mug of coffee (I use a big mug!) The 2nd is on my kitchen counter and I use the refillable kcup in that one so I can use the grounds.
Donut shop coffees are fabulous! Chocolate Donut flavor (coffee and donut w/out the crumbs!) and there is Cinnamon Roll flavor, Regular dark Roast and a DeCaf all in one Variety pkg!!
Some readers posted of trouble with their keurigs. ALWAYS use pure water in your Keurig. If you don’t have a water softener or treated water, I would use bottled water. Otherwise lime scale builds up. You can buy descaler but I have never had to do this and my 1st Keurig is nearly 2 years old. If you do have trouble, call customer service. They are very knowledgeable and helpful!!
    enjoy!
    blessings to you from bonnieblue06

Buy your cups at keurig.com it is cheaper in the end and they have coupons and rewards.

  • Jessica Mills February 2, 2012, 5:24 AM

There is a website called BigCatCoffees.com where you can make your own variety pack. It is 5 k cups of 5 different varieties (and I think they have MOST of the same varieties that Keurig has on their website). The pack of 25 costs about $16, which is more than I like to spend, but I like the idea of being able to make my own variety packs.

  • Linsey February 2, 2012, 7:44 AM

    Butter Toffee is my favorite!

  • Mike February 2, 2012, 10:20 AM

Filtered water. They sell an insert or use a Brita filter picture.

  • Brooke February 2, 2012, 10:28 AM

i LOVE all the brew over ice ones they have!

  • Tiffany February 2, 2012, 11:24 AM

I get coupons for Bed, Bath & Beyond all the time in the mail. If you have one near you, they sell the K-cups. The coupons range from 20-50% off any item. If you have the store, but don’t get the coupons, I will gladly mail you some! 🙂 It saves my father in law a good bit of money!

  • Audra February 2, 2012, 12:11 PM

Make sure to descale (clean) it with white vinegar on a semi regular basis, especially if you have softened water. I have trouble with mine clogging up if I don’t.
I bought a Keurig milk frother from Kohl’s & use Torani flavor syrups from World Market (approx. $7 for a large bottle). It’s SO much cheaper than going to Starbucks & I can play barista while experimenting with all kinds of crazy flavors.

  • Allison Pappenfus February 2, 2012, 3:42 PM

My husband has had his Keurig machine for 3 years now. He can’t live without his Emeril Extra Bold or Sumatran Reserve Bold (which he drinks black – yuck!). I used to be able to stock up on his K-cups at Kohl’s but with supply and demand, their sale prices are $5 more per 18ct box (now $14.99, used to be $9.99). I will only buy them if I have a 20 or 30% Kohl’s coupon and try to pair that when they are offering Kohl’s cash. He doesn’t use the basket where he can use his own ground coffee but he has one if he wants to and that works quite well. I’m not a coffee drinker but I love the smell and the price of K-cups sure beats the local coffee shop!

We just bought one a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE it! The Green Mountain “Golden French Toast” is a wonderful flavor… its like breakfast in a coffee mug! I’ve gotten it at Wal-Mart at $9 for a box of 18… makes the entire house smell like fresh baked french toast!
