It’s interesting that the hoarding show was on after that. Not many people can do that due to the stores etc… our stores do not double and you cant use more than 1 coupon, etc…. so there is no way to do that.

    • Roland April 6, 2011, 10:17 PM

Haha I know. I just realized that lol

  • Brenda A. April 6, 2011, 10:43 PM

I hate hoarders. It makes couponers look bad. Take what you can use and thats it. Leave the rest to the other people that can use it. And I really hate when they say “We donate to shelters”. Yeah right, Your reselling either on ebay or at your weekly garage sells. I am a stay at home mom and I think my job is saving as much money as I can using coupons. I just hate it when you go in a store looking for a sale item and its been wiped out since Sunday morning.

    Peace.

I was pretty much going to say the same thing as you, so I’m just going to add that I was so mad when the first lady said, “I think we should clear the shelf.” That is so rude!!!! It would be great if they really did donate to charities and people they know in need, but if they were doing this, they wouldn’t have the hoard, I mean “stockpile” that they have.

  • Nicole Bolger April 6, 2011, 11:24 PM

That’s pretty sad that you have such little faith in people, Brenda.
I just started using coupons in February and I’ve been able to donate $150 to a local food bank, $350 to a women’s shelter, and $180 to a no-kill animal shelter all through the “freebies” and “cheap” deals posted on blogs. I also stay at home with my 1 1/2 year old and I see it as my job to help other families in addition to my own.

    • Erika April 7, 2011, 1:08 AM

Wow! You rock Nicole! That’s so great you do that. I wish/hope this extreme show reveals couponers like you into the season. I myself was a bit put off by the women on the show… especially that first one. So materialistic! It shouldn’t be a matter of how much “stuff” you can get… but rather about survivng in this economy and getting what you NEED. I can see the value in stocking up and having some supply of neccesities on hand- but not a freaking quicky mart in your garage! Seems selfish. I’m new to couponing and do get that thrill when I score a good deal on something I can use- but I’d never let it get to this hoardish level!

Why do you need 95 bottles of mustard when it wasn’t even free. They were all strange…Why grocery shop when they have enough food to live off of for months. They talk about being on a budget, why not live off of their stock for a few months and spend zero those months. I didn’t like the show, they need to show “normal” couponers. I realize the show is called extreme coupons but I think they are all just crazy and have serious issues. It does make coupons look bad too..

    • Beth April 7, 2011, 8:02 AM

Totally agree. This show features the “crazies”. I can get mustard for free, but stop at 2 bottles. And tell me what that lady who was preparing for a “Party with friends” was going to do with 30 btls of maalox. They are addicted. I spend 1-2 hrs preparing for a shopping trip. At least it made me feel better about myself and my ONE shelf of stockpile in the basement. It also showed my significant other that I have a NORMAL level of OCD about couponing. (Normal… LOL)It put things in perspective.

      • Jan April 7, 2011, 11:06 AM

The Maalox thing made me laugh too because you can get that for free or even make money on it sometimes. I think she was too wrapped up in how much she could save for the show instead of “what am I going to do with 30 bottles of Maalox?” I wonder, when they were watching the show themselves, if they realized how stupid they really looked..haha

  • Tara April 7, 2011, 12:28 PM

I was very turned off by this show. I would like to see more reasonable people who find great deals but only buy enough to feed their families and not an army. If it’s just grocery shopping, it will get old fast. I don’t think I’ll watch again. I was disgusted with the clearing of the shelves, 18 multiple transactions, the Maalox, the mustard.. ugh! all the stuff already mentioned.

What I want to know is if anyone actually makes money with coupons? The narrator was saying that the woman who purchased a $2 Viactiv and used a $3 *made* $1 for each container. Does that really happen in some states/stores? I live in Maryland and every time I’ve done something like this, I just get the item for free… I’ve never “made” money except getting register rewards at drugstores.

    • Beth April 7, 2011, 5:33 PM

Walmart’s new coupon policy allows for overage, in the form of cash back or subtracted from your total cart purchase. I’ve only managed to make a few cents here and there buying trial size items and using $1 off coupons. But I have one computer/printer and buy 1 Sunday newspaper, so I am not wallowing in product OR overages. I think these episodes were all “best case scenarios”; double and triple coupon days, store rewards cards and overages combined with HOURS of planning, BUYING coupons to use, etc. Not realistic for most of us. But I realize they are going for the shock factor with this program, thus the name EXTREME Couponing.

  • Tara April 7, 2011, 12:30 PM

Also.. I hate when people buy 7+ newspapers for just the coupons. I know people on here probably do it but I hope that the extra papers are recycled 🙂

  • cindy April 8, 2011, 12:45 AM

do you know why she needed all that maalox? it was for after she ate those $1.00 hot dog packs(what kind of meat comes in them?)what started as need turned to greed!

  • jessica April 8, 2011, 8:43 AM

I loved the show! I have saved 50% on my bills using coupons lately. I would love to save 90%. I just wish ppl(cashiers & customers standing behind me) would be respect us when we use our coupons. I get alot of stares & rude cashiers when checking out. They critisize my coupons when they are internet & inspect each coupon as if they our fraud. I have to be patient & pull out most products for them to compare with coupon. Walmart!!!!! Is the worst place to shop they give me the hardest time. I don’t know how these ppl do it with leaving with all them baskets full. Paying cents on the dollar???…. As for clearing the shelfs ,yep very Rude! Other than that the show has inspired me to keep shopping thanks!

  • Jessica April 13, 2011, 4:14 PM

I definately think that the show was trying to show what can be done on an extreme level. Almost everyone said that this is not their normal trip and was the biggest “haul” they had ever had. It has inspired me to try to do more couponing. As a stay-at-home mom of three kids under three years old I need to do everything I can to save money. I just wish that there were more stores in my area (or any stores for that matter) that double coupons. I live in Northern California and nobody doubles coupons. In the current economy it would be really great for stores to give people a break and start doubling coupons and doing what they can to help.

The biggest difference between most people and the people on that show is that most people aren’t going to have rooms dedicated to a stock pile. If there are coupons for items I actually use then I would love to get every discount I can.

  • ileana April 14, 2011, 2:12 AM
