UPDATE: Brita WILL Honor $10 Mail-in Rebate
BREAKING UPDATE — Well just hours after we posted Brita NOT Honoring $10 Mail-in Rebate, Brita has listened and quickly changed it’s stance with the following Facebook update:
Hi Brita fans! Great news to report: We will be honoring all the mail-in rebates that were recently available! We apologize for all the inconvenience this caused. Thanks for you patience and sticking with Brita. Enjoy your rebates!
Well I’m not surprised after the backlash they’ve received since our post. Thanks to Brita for making the situation right again! Feel free to call Brita in the morning (as they are now closed) at 1-800-24-BRITA for more details or to ask any questions you may have.

Brita NOT Honoring $10 Mail-in Rebate
UPDATE: Brita will honor rebate. New details posted on Brita rebate decision!
BREAKING NEWS — Oh dear! Remember the HOT $5 Money Maker Brita Pitcher Deal at Walmart post from last week on 1/14/12? Well according to the fiery of comments left on Brita’s Facebook wall regarding the rebate, it looks the $10 Brita Rebate will NOT be honored after all, even though the rebate offer expires 3/31/2012. The comments below were posted earlier today:

According to Brita, “the rebate was so popular that we could not distribute any more forms. We will be honoring all rebates that have been mailed in already.” I’am extremely disappointed in how they are handling this especially because the rebate has a while until the original expiration date of 3/31/2012. You can always return the item for your money back or call Brita in the morning (as they are now closed) at 1-800-24-BRITA for more details or to express your opinion. We’ll keep you posted!
Thanks iheartthemart for the heads up!

USPS Stamp Increase to $0.45 in 2012
If you haven’t already heard, the price of sending a letter is going up. Starting Sunday, January 22, 2012, it will cost you $0.45 cents to send a first-class letter. This is the first increase since 2009. Of course, it’s only a one penny difference from $0.44 cents but if you send a ton of letters, it may make a dent your pocket. For full details and other price increases, check out the Stamp Price Increase 2012!

Did You Receive a FREE $5 Cash Credit from Staples?
WAHOO!!! Remember the Sharpie Markers 12-Pack ONLY $3 + FREE Shipping at Staples.com (71% OFF) (no longer availabe) post from 1/7/2012?! Well, this was a really hot deal and it seems like they ran out of stock quick even though many of you, like myself, were still able to place an order. I’m guessing most of you received a cancellation notice regarding this order a few days but check out this email titled “Staples Order for Sharpies” that I received this morning:
Valued Staples Customer,
We apologize again for our failure in accepting your order for Sharpie markers last week which we could not fulfill. As we do not have access to sufficient supplies to honor all of the orders, we will not be issuing any backorders or extending the price on the Sharpie special. However, to make up for the inconvenience, we are crediting the account you used $5 for each pack you attempted to order. We hope you will consider using this credit at Staples for a future order.
Originally, I paid using my credit card, so I received a totally FREE $5 credit towards my credit card bill… that’s like getting $5 bucks for FREE!!! And I just checked my bank account and the credit has fully gone through. Props to Staples for going the extra mile to make things right. Did you get your FREE $5 Cash Credit from Staples? Let us know! 😀

BREAKING: Recall of Excedrin, NoDoz, Gas-X and Bufferin
JANUARY 8, 2012 – Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all selected bottle sizes of Excedrin and NoDoz products with expiration dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin and Gas-X Prevention products with expiration dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States. What’s the reason? Because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.
Here are the full recall details:
This is huge for couponers because many of these products released coupons quite often. I just found a bottle of Excedrin Extra Strength with an expiration date of February 13 in my medical drawer, so please check check check because I know many of you may have these products. And spread the word by sharing this post!
How to get a refund on your recalled products?
If you have any of the products stated, make sure to contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement. You may also get a refund via mail by fill out out this Refund Form.
(thanks @AP, @Kristi, @Lauralee and to my mom for informing me)

Coupon with original barcode
Are Your Coupons Missing a Barcode?
Well it seems this has been happening more and more often lately. Just last week I stopped by Walmart to redeem my favorite coupon for $3/1 K-Y Jelly product ( 😉 ) printed straight from Coupons.com, but sadly I wasn’t able to redeem the coupon because there was no UPC barcode to scan.

Coupon without original barcode
This week, we are hearing reports that the company that creates the bar codes, GS1, has been making significant changes to their system to include no bar code (as shown here and in the image above) and only the DataBar barcode. The purpose is to ultimately make for faster shopping trips and for the coupons to be followed as stated by the manufacturer or store. The downside to all this is that most retailers have not updated their scanning systems yet to accommodate these major changes, so you may come across issues redeeming your coupons as I did last week. Best thing to do is ask your store to make these changes!
To learn more about any of the changes, visit Coupon Standards on GS1’s website. Are you having any issues redeeming the new DataBar barcoded coupons? Feel free to share your experiences below!
